REVISION HISTORY

ChemniMaTe is a program to animate Chemical reactions with the purpose to
record it on a videorecorder. For example:
C H OH + Cl¯ --> C Cl H + OH¯
³ ³
isn't done by just let an OH¯ swim away and adding a Cl¯ ion, but is (far)
more complicated. See example 'Methanol.ani' for a full animation of this
reaction.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------Why-was-it-written-?---------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was written because the chapters of my chemistry book dealing with reaction-
mechanisms didn't explain this enough to make it understandable for the less
capable students of my class, and there aren't any explaining Videotapes on
this topic. So I decided to write this programme to fill the existing gap.
My chemistry teacher liked it (At first he didn't believe I wrote it all by
myself) and uses some animations in his classes now.
This programme is also used to explain what the difference is between:
H H H H
C---C C---C
/H /Cl /H /Cl
/ / / H/
C===C C===C
H H H
^ ^
THESE HYDROGEN-ATOMS
These two chemical structures have a different refraction of light, and different
melting points.
Oh, by the way, there is another (third) one: just number two, but then the
other way around (??? -> left H up, right H below).
These optical different structures are very common in biology.
By trying to unite the two different structures, you'll see that thei're not
perfectly the same form. That's what ChemniMaTe can visualize.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------How-to-operate-ChemniMaTe----------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ChemniMaTe is always operated from the cli. Just start it by typing:
CMT <file>
will start the script <file>. NB don't enter the <>.
For workbench-users: sorry, no WB support. I've added some Icons using Xicon
to show some examples. I consider WB support just nonsense.
ChemniMaTe uses its own programming language. It was written while looking a
bit to various other languages, especially C and PASCAL. See 'Language.doc'
for an extensive explanation of all commands.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------COPYRIGHT-DISCLAIMER------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ChemniMaTe is in the public domain, as long as the copy-fee isn't more than $4.
I'd like you to copy the entire, unmodified, directory, including ALL docs,
examples and sources. If you change anything in the examples or the source,
let me know. If you use it in another PD serie than Fish, please let me know.
* * * * * * * * * *
If you like (or not) the programme, whenever you use it or not, PLEASE SEND ME
A NICE POSTCARD, I'd like to see one of the walls in my Room fully invisible
because of the cards you guys send me.
* * * * * * * * * *
When you use ChemniMaTe, I'd like you to send me a disk containing some of the
animations you wrote, but if you don't, I don't care as long as you send me the
postcard (receiving a disk together with a postcard is strange as you first send
a card and then start programming.;->)

-----------FUTURE-IMPROVEMENTS-&-BUG-REPORT----------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS:
· The inclusion of DisplayMode 2 (2-d carthesian coords) and 3 (3-d polar
coordinates), some more commands.
· Full rewriting of the display-routines (of course remaining compatible to
older versions), as I dislike their badly written code. I can't imagine I
ever wrote code that bad.
· You can tell me whatever you want to be included.
BUG REPORT:
· I'm afraid, no NTSC support yet. I don't know exactly what I have to change
to make CMT NTSC-compatible. I guess it works at the moment, but some bar at
the bottom of the screen is invisible. This means you'll miss all Footer-texts.
IF SOMEBODY CAN TELL ME WHAT EXACTLY MUST BE CHANGED TO MAKE CMT FULLY NTSC,
PLEASE WRITE TO ME.
· ANIM command, doesn't work correctly -> I planned it to set CMT automatically
into DisplayMode 3, to be RAYMOND/MSDOS compatible.

-----------------------THANKS-TO-:-------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
...At my previous school (Bouwens van der Boije-College, Panningen):
Mr. Nico Vincken, teacher Chemistry.
Mr. Ben Heil, assistant Chemistry.
Mr. Cor Driessen, assistant Physics and Sysop of the schoolcomputer.
Raymond Knaapen for a enormous lot of comments, helpful suggestions
--------------- and rewriting the programme from scratch in PASCAL on
a 80286 (MS-NOPS) computer. The problems he encountered
and the solutions HE thought out for it were of great
help to me.
Harm van der Heijden for a few additional remarks.
******************
* Willy Zelen & *
* Karin Vestjens * Oh, sorry, it should have been on top of this file,
****************** as this programme is dedicated to both.
...At my current school (Eindhoven University of Technology):
Raymond Knaapen Oh, no, not him again!!!
...Anywhere else:
Rutger de Vos & for sending me three virusses, of which each one set
Rob de Vos me a week's work back...
My Father For saying "You'll never manage it to get it ready"
until it worked...
Rowwen Hèze & Favourite local bands. (Rowwen Hèze sounds a bit like
Janse Bagge Bend The Pogues, Janse Bagge Bend isn't explainable)
Vangelis & JM Jarre Favourite componists.
YOU! I hope to fill my wall with cards.
